Does Motor Purr's Fuel Injector Cleaner add octane to my gasoline, and how much?
We get this question all the time. The answer is yes, and it depends on how much you add.
Over the years, our recommended mixture rate has been "one 8-ounce bottle treats between 3 gallons and 20 gallons."
Our most recent guidance from the EPA, who registers this product, requires this updated language: "one 8-ounce bottle treats between 16 gallons and 20 gallons." Perhaps the mix rate was too strong back in the day.
At today's stongest recommended mix rate of one bottle to 16 gallons, the octane increase is 2 points. Of course the additional benefits of using this product for your engine go far beyond the octane increase. And, a stronger treat rate will not hurt your engine.
The issue of octane is often misunderstood, so look for a second blog post on this very important topic of Octane Boost and Motor Purr!
