We get calls about oil burning and excessive exhaust smoke from valve stem seal leaks almost every. So this bears repeating--valve stem seals age, they dry, they shrink, and they leak.
But it is a very easy repair! The neoprene rubber that the seals are made of reacts very well (it expands to original size) when a bottle of Tune Up is added to the crankcase oil and circulated for at least 20 minutes of idling.
This 'seal swell' application has been our specialty since the late 1960s, and is very simple and very inexpensive.
Conversely, changing out the seals is neither simple, nor inexpensive, relatively speaking.
Our Tune Up is the obvious first line of defense for this common problem.
Feel free to call with any questions about valve stem seal leak repair.
